Boys dressed as girls are known as traps, while girls dressed as boys are known as reverse traps. Since anime comes from such a traditional culture, it’s often shocking that it’s such a forward-thinking tool, with traps not so much demonized as accepted in many shows. While traps are often used for comedy, they are seldom pushed aside for their specific preferences, which is fantastic.
